  • Guest Speaker: Shannon Araya, from Human Resources, discussed upcoming changes with the benefits package.
    • Annual benefits enrollment is May 3-10 and can be completed online. An email will be sent out later this month with more details.
    • 403(b) Auto Enrollment: Current staff that is not already contributing to their 403(b) will be auto enrolled beginning July 1, 2017. The auto enrollment is set to 5% of their salary, however an opt-out feature is available.
    • Events and Resources: Benefits updates will be presented April 24-26. Look for the Streakin’ Deacon around campus on May 3 and May 8 to learn more about our benefits updates!

  • Guest Speaker:Lib Edwards discussed the Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
    • The EAP is a service of Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center for WFU faculty/staff. It is a CONFIDENTIAL service in which trained counselors provide:
      • Professional assessment, referral, and follow up services for personal and emotional concerns
      • Workplace problem identification and consultation
      • Access to a variety of behavioral health plans
    • Location: Piedmont Plaza 2 (First Tennessee Bank Building)
    • No charge to the WFU staff or their immediate family members
    • Ways to attend: self -referral or supervisory referral
    • Roughly 5% of WFU community uses this service
    • Please call 336-716-5493 to schedule an appointment, all calls are confidential
  • Standing Committee Report-outs:   
    • Communications: New Master of Studies in Law is available and WFU employees get a 20% discount.
    • Events: Still working on the End of Year Picnic on June 6 at BB&T Field. The committee is working on securing raffle items for the picnic.
    • Fringe Benefits: Nothing in addition to the Benefits presentation today.
    • Membership: We are in the voting season and will remain open until April 25th at 5pm. Please vote!
    • Pro Humanitate: Will be doing a book donation for elementary schools during the End of Year Picnic. More details to follow.
  • Outside Committee Report-outs:  SAC representatives on other committees –
    • Capital Planning Advisory: Nothing to report.
    • Faculty Senate: Nothing to report.
    • Parking & Transportation: Nothing to report.
    • Tree Advisory: Since Aug 2016 145 trees have been planted on WFU property, 82 of which are native to NC.
    • DIPC: Nothing to report.
    • Finance Advisory: FY 17-18 operating budget is $405 mil for the year. The expenses are projected to be $385 mil. Tuition will increase by 3.65%. Additionally, there a new Wellness Center fee will be incurred along with tuition for students.
    • Poverty Task Force: The committee is just getting started and is off to a good start.
    • Professional Development: Nothing to report.
  • Additional Notes
    • The Staff Advisory Council discussed concerns about the transition of custodial staff from WFU employees to Budd Group. We will follow up to get more information on what is happening to custodians as of July 1.
  • Raffle Drawing—Bibs Downtown gift card winner was Elide Vargas.
